Tuesday was a travel day for us with Victoria, BC as our destination. The view of Mt. Rainier from the first ferry which took us from Seattle to Bainbridge Island:
About two hours of driving and we arrived in Port Angeles to take the ferry to Victoria:
Does anybody else think the ferry company has a funny name?
Now, let's play a little game called, "What Are the Odds?" . . . and here is the only question in the game: What are the odds of running into a coworker from Sacramento who is on vacation with his family and just happens to take the same ferry trip into Victoria?
And the answer is . . . holy crap, Mr. Green, what are you doing here?!?
Turns out he was vacationing with his family, so we had a little visit on the top deck of the ferry, and then of course had to get him to take a picture of us:
Fast-forward another hour and we were pulling into Victoria:
We got checked into our hotel and discovered that we had an amazing view from the 9th-floor balcony outside our bedroom:
We'd bought a bottle of Merlot in Seattle but hadn't opened it, so it was time to crack that thing and we had a glass of wine on the balcony:
We took a walk around the neighborhood a bit later and came across the Victoria Skafest, so we walked down and skanked (more on skanking here) for a bit to the Novamatics (side note: who knew Myspace still existed?).
We walked past the Empress on our way back to the Oswego:
After our walk, we drove over to the local grocery store to stock our little kitchen. We were surprised by the prices at the grocery store. For example, sliced turkey from the deli was $17 per pound whereas sliced ham from the deli was about $10 per pound and wild Sockeye salmon fillets were $8 per pound. We were also found that staples were on the high side, e.g. butter was $7 for four sticks, but prices on fresh produce was very reasonable, e.g. $4 for a pint of fresh blueberries.
On tap for tomorrow: a trip to Butchart Gardens.
